Du’aa When Returning From A Journey

When returning from a journey, when one ascends any high land, he should recite takbeer (Allahu Akbar) thrice and when approaching his homeland or city, he should recite the following dua:

لاَ إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لاَ شَرِيكَ لَهُ، لَهُ المُلْكُ وَلَهُ الحَمْدُ، وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ، آيِبُونَ تَائِبُونَ عَابِدُونَ سَاجِدُونَ لِرَبِّنَا حَامِدُونَ، صَدَقَ اللَّهُ وَعْدَهُ، وَنَصَرَ عَبْدَهُ، وَهَزَمَ الأَحْزَابَ وَحْدَهُ

There is no deity besides Allah Ta’ala alone, who has no partner. To Him belongs the kingdom (of the entire universe), and for Him is all praise. He has complete power over everything. We return (from the journey) and we repent to Allah Ta’ala (for our shortcomings and mistakes), and we engage in worship and prostrate (before Allah Ta‘ala), and we only praise our Rabb. Allah Ta‘ala has fulfilled His promise, assisted His slave, and defeated the armies Alone.

عن عبد الله بن عمر رضي الله عنهما، أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم كان إذا قفل من غزو أو حج أو عمرة، يكبر على كل شرف من الأرض ثلاث تكبيرات، ثم يقول: لا إله إلا الله وحده لا شريك له، له الملك وله الحمد، وهو على كل شيء قدير، آيبون تائبون عابدون ساجدون لربنا حامدون، صدق الله وعده، ونصر عبده، وهزم الأحزاب وحده (صحيح بخاري رقم 1797)

Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (radhiyallahu ‘anhuma) reports that when Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) would return from jihaad, or hajj or umrah, he would recite takbeer (Allahu Akbar) thrice when ascending any high land. He would then recite the following dua:

لا إله إلا الله وحده لا شريك له، له الملك وله الحمد، وهو على كل شيء قدير، آيبون تائبون عابدون ساجدون لربنا حامدون، صدق الله وعده، ونصر عبده، وهزم الأحزاب وحده
