The Farewell Hajj – Part 8
Tawaaf Ziyaarah
After preparing himself by wearing his best garment and applying perfume, Rasulullah Sallallahu ‘Alayhi Wa Sallam rode to Makkah on the same day, a Saturday, before the Zuhr Salaah. He performed Tawaaf Ziyaarah while riding his mount. After completing the Tawaaf, he approached the well of Zamzam.

The tribe of ‘Abdul Muttalib were drawing water and Rasulullah Sallallahu ‘Alayhi Wa Sallam said to them: ‘Draw me some water’ O Banu ‘Abdul-Muttalib. Were it not that the people would overpower you (and take this privilege from you), I would have drawn water with you. (Sahih Muslim, Hadith 1218, Pg. 485)

They offered a bowl of water to Rasulullah Sallallahu ‘Alayhi Wa Sallam, who drank from it while standing. Subsequently, Rasulullah Sallallahu ‘Alayhi Wa Sallam returned to Mina, where he performed the Zuhr Salaah. (Sahih Muslim, Hadith 1308, Pg. 516). Rasulullah Sallallahu ‘Alayhi Wa Sallam also spent the night in Mina.

The days of Tashreeq and the pelting of the Jamaraat
On the 11th of Zhul Hijjah, Rasulullah Sallallahu ‘Alayhi Wa Sallam waited until the sun had passed its zenith before proceeding on foot towards the Jamaraat. He stoned the first Jamarah, made Du’aa for a long time; he supplicated for the duration that Surah Baqarah would be recited, repeated the ritual with the second Jamarah, but did not supplicate or wait after stoning the third Jamarah. During the days of Tashreeq, Rasulullah Sallallahu ‘Alayhi Wa Sallam stayed in Mina. (Sahih Bukhari, Hadith 1659, Pg. 621)

Staying in Mina and visiting the Baitullah
While staying in Mina, Rasulullah Sallallahu ‘Alayhi Wa Sallam would travel to Makkah every night to perform Ziyaarah (to visit) the Sacred House of Allah Ta’alaa. (Sahih Bukhari, Pg. 617)

The revelation of Surah al-Nasr
Surah al-Nasr was revealed during Rasulullah Sallallahu ‘Alayhi Wa Sallam’s stay in Mina, where he delivered two sermons. (Sunan Tirmidhi, Hadith 3362, pg. 532)

The revelation of Surah al-Nasr signalled to Rasulullah Sallallahu ‘Alayhi Wa Sallam that his time to depart from the Ummah and the time to return to Allah Ta’alaa was drawing near. Similarly, the companions sensed the approaching separation from their beloved Nabi Sallallahu ‘Alayhi Wa Sallam.

After completing the ritual of stoning the Jamaraat on the 12th of Zul-Hijjah, Rasulullah Sallallahu ‘Alayhi Wa Sallam remained in Mina and pelted the Jamaraat on the 13th of Zhul Hijjah as well.

Staying in Muhassab and the farewell Tawaaf
Following the pelting of the 13th of Zhul Hijjah, they left Mina and arrived at Muhassab. It is recorded in Mu’jam al-Buldaan that Muhassab is also known as Abtah, Bathaa, and Khaif Bani Kinana. Rasulullah Sallallahu ‘Alayhi Wa Sallam had already informed everyone of this while he was in Mina. (Muslim, 1314, Pg. 517)

While in Muhassab, Rasulullah Sallallahu ‘Alayhi Wa Sallam performed the Zuhr, ‘Asr, Maghrib and ‘Isha Salaah, after which he rested briefly. From there, he proceeded to Makkah to perform the farewell Tawaaf. (Sahih Bukhari, Hadith 1675, Pg. 626)

Rasulullah Sallallahu ‘Alayhi Wa Sallam performed Tawaaf at the time of Sehri (before dawn). (Bukhari, Hadith 1552, Pg. 589)

The return journey
Returning from their journey on the 14th of Zhul Hijjah, after the Wednesday Fajr Salaah, Rasulullah Sallallahu ‘Alayhi Wa Sallam departed from Makkah Mukarramah for his return to Madinah Munawwarah through Kadaa, the bottom section of Makkah Mukarramah, taking Zam Zam water along. (Sunan Tirmizi, Hadith 963, Pg. 174)
