Hadhrat Uqbah bin Aamir (Radhiallahu Anhu) reports that on one occasion I met Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) and I greeted him and took hold of his hand. I then asked: “O Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), what is the formula for success?” Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) replied, “O Uqbah, safeguard your tongue, let your home be sufficient for you and cry over your sins (in repentance).”
Hadhrat Uqbah bin Aamir (Radhiallahu Anhu) says that on another occasion Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) met me and greeted me. He thereafter took hold of my hand (out of compassion and affection for me). Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “O Uqbah, should I not teach you the best three Surahs to be revealed in the Taurah, Injeel, Zaboor and the Quraan Majeed?” Hadhrat Uqbah bin Aamir (Radhiallahu Anhu) replied, “Certainly teach me, O Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), may my parents be sacrificed for you.” Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) recited before me Surah Ikhlaas, Surah Falaq and Surah Naas. He then said, “O Uqbah, Never forget to recite these Surahs and do not allow a night to pass without reciting them.” Hadhrat Uqbah bin Aamir (Radhiallahu Anhu) says that from the time Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) advised me, I never omitted the recitation of these Surahs, nor did I allow a night to pass without reciting them.
Hadhrat Uqbah bin Aamir (Radhiallahu Anhu) further explains: “On yet another occasion, I met Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). I greeted him and taking hold of his hand I asked: “O Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), inform me of the most virtuous of actions.” Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) replied, “O Uqbah, join ties with the one who severs relations with you, continue granting favours to the one who deprives you, and turn away and overlook the one who oppresses you.
