The Sign of True Love between Allah Ta‘ala and the Servant

Hazrat Moulana Muhammad Ilyaas (rahmatullahi ‘alaih) once mentioned the following:

The demand of true love is that the lover should completely conform to his beloved in even his wants and his desires.

It was the condition of my brother, Moulana Muhammed Yahya (rahimahullah) (who was the mureed and close attendant of Moulana Gangohi (rahimahullah)), that despite him living at a distance from the khaanqah of Hazrat Gangohi (rahimahullah), it often happened that he would perceive an urge in his heart to go to the khaanqah to meet Hazrat Gangohi (rahimahullah).

When he would perceive this urge, he would immediately leave to come to the khaanqah, and upon arriving, he would find that Hazrat Moulana Gangohi (rahimahullah) would be seated waiting for him. (In other words, such was the bond of love between the sheikh- Hazrat Gangohi (rahimahullah) – and his mureed – Moulana Muhammed Yahya (rahimahullah) – that often, the desire in the heart of Moulana Gangohi (rahimahullah) to meet him was perceived in his heart.)

After mentioning this, Hazrat Moulana Muhammed Ilyaas (rahimahullah) said:

When the servant of Allah Ta‘ala acquires true love for Allah Ta‘ala, then his relationship with Allah Ta‘ala becomes such that those things which are pleasing to Allah Ta‘ala become naturally pleasing to the servant, and those things which are detestable to Allah Ta‘ala also become naturally detestable to the servant.

The method to create this type of true love for Allah Ta‘ala in the heart is for one to adhere and follow the blessed example and Sunnah of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam). Hence, Allah Ta‘ala says in the Qur’aan Majeed:

قُلۡ  اِنۡ کُنۡتُمۡ تُحِبُّوۡنَ اللّٰهَ فَاتَّبِعُوۡنِیۡ یُحۡبِبۡکُمُ اللّٰهُ

Say (to the ummah, O Rasulullah [sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam]), “If you really love Allah, then follow me, Allah will love you…” (Surah Aal-e-Imraan v. 31)

(Malfoozaat Hazrat Moulana Muhammad Ilyaas (rahmatullahi ‘alaih) pg. 131)
