Sunnats and Aadaab of Tilaawat of the Qur’aan Majeed – Part 14

1. It is not permissible for a person in the state of janaabah or a woman in the state of haidh to recite the Qur’aan Majeed. However, it is permissible for them to recite those aayaat in the Qur’aan Majeed which are duaas (supplications) to Allah Ta‘ala as well as those aayaat which are recited for protection against shayaateen, evil etc. When reciting these aayaat, they will recite them with the niyyat of duaa and isti’aazah (seeking Allah Ta’ala’s Divine protection). They will not recite them with the niyyat of tilaawat.

عن ابن عمر، عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: لا تقرأ الحائض، ولا الجنب شيئا من القرآن (سنن الترمذي رقم 131)

Hazrat ibn Umar (radhiyallahu ‘anhuma) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said: “A person in the state of haidh or janaabah should not recite any portion of the Qur’aan Majeed.”
