The first home for ‘Ibaadah (worship)
إِنَّ أَوَّلَ بَيْتٍ وُضِعَ لِلنَّاسِ لَلَّذِي بِبَكَّةَ مُبَارَكًا وَهُدًى لِلْعَالَمِينَ [آل عمران: 96]
“The first House (of worship) placed for men was that at Bakkah (Makkah), full of blessings.”
Hadhrat ‘Ali Radiyallahu ‘Anhu mentions, “Many houses had been built before the Ka’bah, but the very first place for the worship of Allah Ta’aala was this one.”
This piece of the earth first appeared above the water after its creation and from it the rest of the earth was spread and rolled out, in the same manner as a roti is rolled out by a roller, to a large round flat bread, from a small round piece of dough.
According to some ‘Ulama, the jews used to boast about Baitul Muqaddas being the most virtuous part of the earth because of it being the centre for so many of the Ambiyaa ‘Alayhimus Salaam. Then Allah Ta’aala revealed the Ayah regarding the Maqaame-e-Ibraheem
فِيهِ آيَاتٌ بَيِّنَاتٌ مَقَامُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ [آل عمران: 97]
“In it are clear signs (for example) the Maqaam-e-Ibraheem”
Note: The Maqaam-e-Ibraheem is that stone on which Hadhrat Ibraheem ‘Alayhis Salaam used to stand when he built the Ka’bah. His footprints are still to be seen on it. Today it is found in a small golden enclosure near the Ka’bah. (Fazaail Hajj, pg 129,130)
