Sunnats and Aadaab of Eating – Part 6

1. One should recite the following duaa after eating:

اَلحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَطْعَمَنَا وَسَقَانَا وَجَعَلَنَا مُسْلِمِينَ

All praise is due to Allah Ta’ala who gave us food and drink and made us Muslims.

اَلحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَطْعَمَنِي هَذَا الطَّعَامَ وَرَزَقَنِيهِ مِن غَيرِ حَولٍ مِّنِّي وَلَا قُوَّة

All praise is due to Allah Ta’ala who gave me this food to eat, and He provided me with it without any effort or striving from my side.

عن أبي سعيد الخدري، أن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم: كان إذا فرغ من طعامه قال: الحمد لله الذي أطعمنا، وسقانا، وجعلنا مسلمين (ابو داود رقم 3850)

Hadhrat Abu Sa’eed (Radhiallahu Anhu) reports that whenever Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) would complete his meals he would recite: 

اَلحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَطْعَمَنَا وَسَقَانَا وَجَعَلَنَا مُسْلِمِينَ

All praise is due to Allah Ta’ala who gave us food and drink and made us Muslims.

عن سهل بن معاذ بن أنس عن أبيه أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: من أكل طعاما ثم قال الحمد لله الذى أطعمنى هذا الطعام ورزقنيه من غير حول منى ولا قوة غفر له ما تقدم من ذنبه وما تأخر ومن لبس ثوبا فقال الحمد لله الذى كسانى هذا الثوب ورزقنيه من غير حول منى ولا قوة غفر له ما تقدم من ذنبه وما تأخر. (ابو داود 4025)

Hadhrat Muaadh bin Anas (Radhiyallahu Anhu) reports that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “Whoever eats any food and thereafter recites the following Duaa, his previous and future (minor) sins will be forgiven.

اَلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أطْعَمَنيِ هَذَا الطَّعَامَ وَرَزَقَنِيهِ مِن غَيرِ حَولٍ مِّنِّي وَلَا قُوَّة

And whoever wears a garment, and thereafter recites the following Duaa, all his previous and future (minor) sins will be forgiven.”

اَلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي كَسَانِي هَذَا الثَّوبَ وَرَزَقَنِيهِ مِن غَيرِ حَولٍ مِّنِّي وَلَا قُوَّة

عن سهل بن معاذ بن أنس الجهني عن أبيه عن النبي صلى الله عليه و سلم قال: من أكل طعاما فقال الحمد لله الذي أطعمني هذا ورزقنيه من غير حول منى ولا قوة غفر له ما تقدم من ذنبه (ابن ماجة رقم  3285)

Hadhrat Muaadh bin Anas (Radhiallahu Anhu) relates that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “The one who eats his meal and thereafter recites the following duaa, Allah Ta’ala will forgive all his past (minor) sins.

اَلحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَطْعَمَنِي هَذَا الطَّعَامَ وَرَزَقَنِيهِ مِن غَيرِ حَولٍ مِّنِّي وَلَا قُوَّة

All praise is due to Allah Ta’ala who gave me this food to eat, and He provided me with it without any effort or striving from my side.

عن أنس بن مالك : أن النبي صلى الله عليه و سلم قال إن الله ليرضى عن العبد أن يأكل الأكلة أو يشرب الشربة فيحمده عليها (ترمذي رقم 1816)

Hadhrat Anas (Radhiallahu Anhu) reports that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “Certainly Allah Ta’ala is pleased with that servant who eats a morsel of food, or drinks a sip of water, and praises Allah Ta’ala for it.”
