Sunnats and Aadaab of Azaan and Iqaamah – Part 13

Words of Iqaamah

The words of the iqaamah are the same as the words of azaan. However, after حَيَّ عَلٰى الْفَلَاحْ (hayya alal falaah), one will say:

قَدْ قَامَتِ الصَّلَاةْ قَدْ قَامَتِ الصَّلَاةْ

The salaah has been established, the salaah has been established

The words of iqaamah are as follows:

اَللهُ أَكْبَرْ اَللهُ أَكْبَرْ

Allah Ta’ala is the greatest, Allah Ta’ala is the greatest.

اَللهُ أَكْبَرْ اَللهُ أَكْبَرْ

Allah Ta’ala is the greatest, Allah Ta’ala is the greatest.

أَشْهَدُ أَلَّا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللهْ أَشْهَدُ أَلَّا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللهْ

I testify that there is none worthy of worship besides Allah Ta’ala, I testify that there is none worthy of worship besides Allah Ta’ala.

أَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَّسُوْلُ اللهْ أَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَّسُوْلُ اللهْ

I testify that Hazrat Muhammad (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) is the messenger of Allah Ta’ala, I testify that Hazrat Muhammad (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) is the messenger of Allah Ta’ala.

حَيَّ عَلٰى الصَّلَاةْ حَيَّ عَلٰى الصَّلَاةْ

Come to salaah, Come to salaah.

حَيَّ عَلٰى الْفَلَاحْ حَيَّ عَلٰى الْفَلَاحْ

Come to success, Come to success.

قَدْ قَامَتِ الصَّلَاةْ قَدْ قَامَتِ الصَّلَاةْ

The salaah has been established, the salaah has been established.

اَللهُ أَكْبَرْ اَللهُ أَكْبَرْ

Allah Ta’ala is the greatest, Allah Ta’ala is the greatest.

لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللهْ

There is none worthy of worship besides Allah Ta’ala.

Note: The ة (taa) of the word الصَّلَاةْ (salaah) in حَيَّ عَلٰى الصَّلاَهْ (hayya alas salaah) and in  قَدْ قَامَتِ الصَّلاَهْ (qad qaamatis salaah) will be read with a sukoon (ــْـ) and thus produce the sound of a هـ (haa). One will not pronounce the ة (taa) in both. Similarly, when reading both these phrases in the iqaamah, one will not say hayya alas salaati hayya alas salaat and qad qaamatis salaatu qad qaamatis salaat. Rather, one will say hayya alas salaah hayya alas salaah and qad qaamatis salaah qad qaamatis salaah.
