Sunnats and Aadaab of the Musjid – Part 4

1. Do not take photos or make videos while in the musjid. Taking photos or making videos of animate objects is haraam in Islam, and doing so in the musjid is an even greater sin.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas’ood (radhiyallahu anhu) reports that Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said, “Indeed the people who will be punished the most severely by Allah Ta’ala on the Day of Qiyaamah will be those involved in picture making.”

2. Do not engage in worldly talk, nor discuss worldly affairs in the musjid.

Hazrat Hasan (radhiyallahu anhu) reports that Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said, “A time is soon to dawn upon the Ummah when people will discuss worldly affairs in the musjid. Do not sit with such people, for Allah Ta’ala has no need for them.”

3. Do not quarrel or argue with anyone in the musjid as this violates the sanctity of the musjid.
4. Do not use the musjid as a thoroughfare (to pass through to the other side).

Hazrat Ibnu Umar (radhiyallahu anhuma) reports that Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said, “The following actions should not be carried out in the musjid; it (the musjid) should not be used as a thoroughfare, nor should weapons be drawn in the musjid …”

5. It is disrespectful to unnecessarily climb onto the roof of the musjid.

Hazrat Ibnu Umar (radhiyallahu anhuma) reports that Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) prohibited performing salaah in seven places; (from which is) on the roof of the house of Allah Ta’ala.
