One should recite the following duaa before going to sleep:

اللهُمَّ خَلَقْتَ نَفْسِي وَأَنْتَ تَوَفَّاهَا، لَكَ مَمَاتُهَا وَمَحْيَاهَا، إِنْ أَحْيَيْتَهَا فَاحْفَظْهَا، وَإِنْ أَمَتَّهَا فَاغْفِرْ لَهَا، اللهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الْعَافِيَةَ

O Allah, You are the One who has created my soul and You are the One who will give it death.…

One should make wudhu before going to sleep

عن البراء بن عازب رضي الله عنهما قال قال لي رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم إذا أتيت مضجعك فتوضأ وضوءك للصلاة (بخاري رقم 247)

Hadhrat Baraa bin Aazib (Radhiyallahu Anhu) reports that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) advised him: “When you are retiring to bed, then perform wudhu as you perform wudhu for salaah.” …

One should recite the following duaa before going to sleep

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّى أَعُوذُ بِوَجْهِكَ الْكَرِيمِ وَكَلِمَاتِكَ التَّامَّةِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا أَنْتَ آخِذٌ بِنَاصِيَتِهِ اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ تَكْشِفُ الْمَغْرَمَ وَالْمَأْثَمَ اللَّهُمَّ لاَ يُهْزَمُ جُنْدُكَ وَلاَ يُخْلَفُ وَعْدُكَ وَلاَ يَنْفَعُ ذَا الْجَدِّ مِنْكَ الْجَدُّ سُبْحَانَكَ وَبِحَمْدِك

O Allah, I seek protection in Your noble Countenance and in Your perfect words from the evil of all things which are in Your control.…

One should dust his bed before going into bed and recite the following duaa:

بِاسْمِكَ رَبِّى وَضَعْتُ جَنْبِى وَبِكَ أَرْفَعُهُ إِنْ أَمْسَكْتَ نَفْسِى فَارْحَمْهَا وَإِنْ أَرْسَلْتَهَا فَاحْفَظْهَا بِمَا تَحْفَظُ بِهِ عِبَادَكَ الصَّالِحِينَ

O my Rabb, only with Your name have I placed my side down (i.e.…

One should recite the following duaa thrice before going to sleep

أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ الَّذِي لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ هُوَ الحَيَّ القَيُّومَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ

I seek Allah’s forgiveness, the One besides whom there is no deity, the Ever- Living, the Eternal, and I turn to Him in seeking His pardon

عن أبي سعيد رضي الله عنه عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: من قال حين يأوي إلى فراشه: أستغفر الله الذي لا إله إلا هو الحي القيوم وأتوب إليه، ثلاث مرات، غفر الله ذنوبه وإن كانت مثل زبد البحر، وإن كانت عدد ورق الشجر، وإن كانت عدد رمل عالج، وإن كانت عدد أيام الدنيا.…

• One should sleep on his right side

One should recite the following duaa before going to sleep

لاَ إلَهَ إلاَّ اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لاَ شَرِيكَ لَهُ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ ، لاَ حَولَ وَلاَ قُوَّةَ إلاَّ بِاللهِ سُبْحَانَ اللهِ وَالحَمدُ لله وَ لاَ إلَهَ إلاَّ اللَّهُ وَ اللَّهُ أَكْبَر

There is no deity besides Allah Ta’ala, who is alone, who has no partner.…

One should  place his right hand under his right cheek and recite the following duaa (once or thrice):

اللَّهُمَّ قِنِى عَذَابَكَ يَوْمَ تَبْعَثُ عِبَادَكَ

O Allah, save me from your punishment the day You resurrect Your servants.…

One should recite the following duaa before going to sleep

اللهُمَّ رَبَّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَرَبَّ الْأَرْضِ وَرَبَّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ، رَبَّنَا وَرَبَّ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ، فَالِقَ الْحَبِّ وَالنَّوَى، وَمُنْزِلَ التَّوْرَاةِ وَالْإِنْجِيلِ وَالْفُرْقَانِ، أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ أَنْتَ آخِذٌ بِنَاصِيَتِهِ، اللهُمَّ أَنْتَ الْأَوَّلُ فَلَيْسَ قَبْلَكَ شَيْءٌ، وَأَنْتَ الْآخِرُ فَلَيْسَ بَعْدَكَ شَيْءٌ، وَأَنْتَ الظَّاهِرُ فَلَيْسَ فَوْقَكَ شَيْءٌ، وَأَنْتَ الْبَاطِنُ فَلَيْسَ دُونَكَ شَيْءٌ، اقْضِ عَنَّا الدَّيْنَ، وَأَغْنِنَا مِنَ الْفَقْر

O Allah, the Lord of the heavens and the earth and the Lord of the great Arsh, our Lord and the Lord of everything, the One who causes the seed-grain and the date-pit to split, and the One who revealed the Taurah, Injeel and Qur’an, I seek Your protection from the evil of all things which are in Your control.…
