Ahaadith on the importance of the Masjid

 

عَنْ أبِيِ سَعِيدٍ الخُدْرِي رضي الله عنه، أنَهَّ سَمِعَ النبَّي صَلىَّ اللهُ عَليْهِ وَسَلمَّ يقَوُلُ: صَلاةُ الجَمَاعَةِ تفَضُلُ صَلاةَ الفذِّ بِخَمْسٍ وَعِشْرِينَ دَرَجَة 

– صحيح البخاري – بِاب فضل صلاة الجماعة   

Hadhrat Abu Sa’eed Khudri Radiyallahu anhu narrates that he heard Rasulullah ﷺ saying, “Salaah performed in jamaa’ah is twenty five times more virtuous than salaah performed individually.”

 

عَنْ أبَيِ الْأحْوَصِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ رضي الله عنه، قاَلَ: مَنْ سَرَّهُ أنْ يلَقىَ الله غَدًا مُسْلِما، فليُحَافظْ عَلىَ هَؤُلَاءِ الصَّلَوَاتِ حَيْثُ ينُاَدَى بهِنَّ، فإَنَّ الله شَرَعَ لِنبيّكُمْ صَلىَّ اللهُ عَليْهِ وَسَلمَّ سُننَ الْهُدَى، وَإنَّهُنَّ منْ سُنَنِ الْهُدَى، وَلوْ أنَكُّمْ صَلّيتمْ فيِ بيُوُتكُمْ كَمَا يصَلِّي هَذاَ الْمُتخَلِّفُ فيِ بيْتِهِ، لتَرَكْتمُ سُنّةَّ نبَيِّكمْ، وَلَوْ ترَكْتمْ سُنَّةَ نبَيِّكمْ لَضَللتمْ، وَمَا مِنْ رَجُلٍ يتَطَهَّرُ فيحْسِنُ الطهُورَ، ثمَّ يعْمِدُ إلِىَ مَسْجِدٍ مِنْ هَذِهِ الْمَسَاجِدِ، إلِّا كَتبَ اللهُ لهُ بكُلِ خَطْوَةٍ يَخْطُوهَا حَسَنَة ، وَيَرْفعهُ بها دَرَجَةً ، وَيَحُط عَنْهُ بهِا سَيئةً ، وَلقَدْ رَأيْتنُاَ وَمَا يتَخَلَّفُ عَنْهَا إلّاَ مُناَفقٌ مَعْلومُ النفِاَقِ، وَلقَدْ كَانَ الرَّجُلُ يؤْتىَ بهِ يُهَادَى بيْنَ الرَّجُليْنِ حَتىَّ يُقاَمَ فيِ الصَّفِ 

– صحيح مسلم – باب صلاة الجماعة من سنن الهدى  

Hadhrat Abdullah bin Mas’ood Radiyallahu anhu said, “If a person wishes to meet Allaah Ta’aala as a Muslim on the Day of Qiyaamah, he must perform salaah at a place where adhaan is called out (i.e. a masjid) because Allaah Ta’aala has prescribed such practices for your Nabi ﷺ which are nothing but guidance and salaah with jamaa’ah is one of them. If you start performing your salaah at your homes as some people do, you will be discarding the Sunnah of your Nabi ﷺ and as soon as you forsake his Sunnah, you go astray. When a person performs wudhu correctly and then leaves for the masjid, he receives the reward of a good deed for each step he takes, he is elevated by one stage and one sin is wiped out. I have seen that none of us would miss salaah with jamaa’ah except an open munaafiq. Even a sick person would be brought with the support of two men and made to stand in the saff.”

 

وَعَنْ قبُاثَ بْنِ أشْيمَ اللَّيثيِ قاَلَ: قاَلَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: صَلَاةُ الرَّجُليْنِ يَؤُم أحَدُهُمَا صَاحِبهُ أزْكَى عِنْدَ اللهِ مِنْ صَلَاةِ أرَبعَةٍ تتَرَى، وَصَلَاةُ أرْبعَةٍ يؤُم أحَدُهُمْ أزْكَى عِنْدَ اللهِ مِنْ صَلَاةِ ثمَانيِةٍ تتَرَى، وَصَلَاةُ ثمَانيِةٍ يَؤُ م أحَدُهمْ أزْكَى عِنْدَ اللهِ مِنْ مِائةٍ تتَرَى

Hadhrat Qubaath bin Ashyam Radiyallahu anhu narrates that Rasulullah ﷺ said, “The salaah of two persons with one leading the other is more liked by Allaah Ta’aala than four persons performing salaah individually. Similarly, the salaah of four persons with one leading is more liked by Allaah Ta’aala than eight persons performing salaah individually. And, the salaah of eight persons with one leading is more liked than hundred persons performing salaah individually.”

 

عَنْ أبَيِ هُرَيْرَةَ رضي الله عنه أنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلىَّ اللهُ عَليْهِ وَسَلمَّ، قاَلَ: أحَب الْبلِادِ إلِىَ اللهِ مَسَاجِدُهَا، وَأبَغضُ الْبلِادِ إلِىَ اللهِ أسْوَاقهُا  – صحيح مسلم – باب فضل الجلوس في مصلاه بعد الصبح وفضل المساجد  

Hadhrat Abu Hurayrah Radiyallahu anhu narrates that Rasulullah ﷺ  said, “The most beloved of places to Allaah Ta’aala are the masaajid, and the most despised of places to Allah Ta’aala are the markets.”

 

عَنْ أبَيِ هُرَيْرَةَ رضي الله عنه،عَنِ النبّيِ صَلىَّ اللهُ عَليْهِ وَسَلمَّ قاَلَ: سَبْعَةٌ يظِلهُمُ الله فيِ ظِلِهِ، يَوْمَ لَا ظِلَّ إلاَّ ظِلّهُ: الإِمَامُ العاَدِلُ، وَشَابٌّ نَشَأَ فيِ عِباَدَةِ رَبِهِ، وَرَجُلٌ قَلْبهُ مُعلَقٌّ فيِ المَسَاجِدِ، وَرَجُلانِ تحَاباَّ فيِ اللهِ اجْتمَعاَ عَليْهِ وَتفَرَّقاَ عَلَيْهِ، وَرَجُلٌ طَلبَتهُ امْرَأةٌ ذاَتُ مَنْصِبٍ وَجَمَالٍ، فقَاَلَ: إنِي أخَافُ الله ، وَرَجُلٌ تصَدَّقَ، أخْفىَ حَتىَّ لاَ تعْلم شِمَالهُ مَا تنْفِقُ يمِينهُ، وَرَجُلٌ ذكَرَ الله خَالِيا ففَاضَتْ عَيْناَه  

– صحيح البخاري – باب من جلس في المسجد ينتظر الصلاة وفضل المساجد  

Hadhrat Abu Hurayrah  Radiyallahu anhu narrates that Rasulullah ﷺ said, “Seven persons will be under the shade of Allah Ta’aala on the day when there will be no shade except His. A just ruler, a youth who passed his youth in the worship of Allaah Ta’aala, a person whose heart is attached to the masaajid, two men who love one another for the sake of Allaah Ta’aala; on this basis they meet and depart, a man who is enticed by a beautiful woman of high standing and he responds saying, “I fear Allaah.” a person who gives charity so secretly, that the left hand doesn’t know what the right spends and a person who remembers Allaah Ta’aala in solitude and tears flow from his eyes.”

 

عَنْ أبَيِ سَعِيدٍ رضي الله عنه،قاَلَ: قاَلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلىَّ اللهُ عَليْهِ وَسَلمَّ: «إذِاَ رَأيْتمُ الرَّجُلَ يتَعَاَهَدُ المَسْجِدَ فاشْهَدُوا لهُ باِلإِيمَانِ »، فإَنَّ اللهَ تعَاَلىَ يقَوُلُ: [ إنمَّا يعْمُرُ مَسَاجِدَ اللهِ مَنْ آمَنَ باللهِ وَاليَوْمِ الآخِرِ وَأقَاَمَ الصَّلَاةَ وَآتىَ الزَّكَاةَ الآيةَ { التوبة: 18}] هَذاَ حَدِيثٌ غَرِيبٌ حَسَنٌ  

– سنن الترمذي – باب ما جاء في حرمة الصلاة  

Hadhrat Abu Sa’eed Khudri Radiyallahu anhu narrates that Rasulullah ﷺ  said, “When you see a person frequenting the masjid, then bear testimony to his Imaan. For Allaah, Ta’aala says, “Only those shall attend Allaah’s places of worship who believe in Allaah Ta’aala and the last day, who establish salaah and who pay zakaah and fear Allaah Ta’aala only…”
