Makkah – The beloved city of Rasulullah Sallallahu ‘Alayhi Wa Sallam
Hadhrat Ibn ‘Abbaas Radiyallahu ‘Anhu reports that Rasulullah Sallallahu ‘Alayhi Wa Sallam said to Makkah, “What a wonderful city you are and how I love you. Had my people not forced me out of you, I would never have settled in any other city besides you.”

Because of this and other Ahaadith, most of the ‘Ulama believe that Makkah is the most virtuous (afdhal) of all towns, and to stay there permanently or even for a short while is the best. Who would not like to be able to settle there when one Salaah is rewarded one hundred thousand times? Yet despite all this, many of our saintly elders did not encourage staying in Makkah (for longer than necessary) because sins are also multiplied there.

As for those sincere people who stay away from sins, there can be no better place on the surface of the earth than Makkah. Unfortunately, such people are few in number today. Many people claim to be able to respect and honour Makkah properly. It is very easy to claim but very difficult to do. (Fazaaile Hajj pg 159,160)
