Sunnats and Aadaab of Wudhu-Part 2

1. Gargle the mouth thrice by taking three handfuls of water with the right hand. Gargle thoroughly, allowing the water to reach all the parts of the mouth.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Zaid (radhiyallahu anhu) was asked regarding the wudhu of Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam). Hence, he requested that a utensil of water be brought. He then demonstrated to them the manner in which Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) used to perform wudhu. He poured water onto his hands from the utensil and then washed his hands (till the wrists) thrice. Thereafter, he inserted his hands in the utensil and (took water and) gargled his mouth and rinsed his nose thrice.

2. Insert water into the nostrils with the right hand thrice, and if there is a need to clean the nose, do so with the left hand.

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (radhiyallahu anhu) reports that Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said, “When any one of you performs wudhu then he should insert water into the nostrils and thereafter clean the nose (with the left hand).”

3. When fasting, exercise caution in gargling the mouth and rinsing the nose. Do not exert yourself in doing so, as water may go down the throat or nasal passage, thus causing the fast to break.

Hazrat Laqeet bin Samurah (radhiyallahu anhu) reports, “I once asked Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) regarding wudhu. Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said, ‘Perform a complete and perfect wudhu, ensure that you make khilaal of the fingers and rinse the nose thoroughly, except in the case where you are fasting.’”

4. Recite the following dua at any time during the wudhu or after the wudhu:

O Allah Ta’ala, forgive my sins, grant me spaciousness in my home and bless me with barakah in my sustenance.

Hazrat Abu Moosa Ash’ari (radhiyallahu anhu) reports, “I brought water to Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) to perform wudhu. He performed wudhu and I heard him recite the dua I then asked him, ‘O Nabi of Allah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam)! While you were making wudhu, I heard you reciting the dua: Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) replied, ‘Has this dua left out any goodness? (It has encompassed all the bounties and favours of Allah Ta’ala within it)’”

5. Wash the face thrice. The procedure of washing the face is to take water in both hands and pass it gently over the face. It is makrooh to splash the water on the face. The face has to be washed from the top of the forehead to beneath the chin and from one ear lobe till the other. Ensure that water reaches all parts of the face, including the corner of the eyes and the skin between the earlobes and sideburns.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Zaid bin Aasim (radhiyallahu anhu) reports that he saw Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) perform wudhu… (while Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) was performing wudhu,) he then washed his face thrice.
