Sunnats and Aadaab of Wudhu – Part 4

1. Make masah of the nape (the back of the neck) using the back of the fingers. Masah will not be made on the throat.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (radhiyallahu anhuma) narrates that Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said, “Whoever performs wudhu and makes masah on his nape, he will be saved from wearing a necklace (of fire) around his neck on the Day of Judgement.”

2. Wash the feet including the ankles thrice. It is mustahab to commence washing the feet from the toes towards the ankles.

Hazrat Humraan (rahimahullah), the freed slave of Hazrat Uthmaan (radhiyallahu anhu), reports that Hazrat Uthmaan (radhiyallahu anhu) requested for some water to perform wudhu … (He then commenced performing wudhu until) he washed his right foot until the ankles thrice, followed by the left foot in a similar manner. He then mentioned, “I saw Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) perform wudhu in the manner I performed wudhu.”

3. Make khilaal of the toes using the small finger of the left hand. Commence with the small toe of the right foot and end with the small toe of the left foot.

Hazrat Mustawrid bin Shaddaad (radhiyallahu anhu) reports, “I saw Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) making khilaal of his toes with the small finger (of his left hand) whilst making wudhu.”

4. Upon completing the wudhu, recite the shahaadah. If you are in an open place, look towards the sky when reciting the shahaadah. Similarly, recite the other masnoon duas which are reported in the Hadith.
Below are some of the various masnoon duas which are reported in the Hadith to be recited upon the completion of wudhu:
Dua One:
The one who recites the following dua, the eight doors of Jannah are opened for him and he may enter from whichever door he wishes:

I testify that there is no deity besides Allah Ta’ala who is alone and has no partner, and I testify that Hazrat Muhammad (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) is His servant and messenger. O Allah Ta’ala, include me from among those who constantly repent and among those who are extremely pure.

Dua Two:
The one who recites the following dua, the reward of the dua will be recorded for him on a scroll which will be kept sealed until the Day of Qiyaamah:

Glory and praise be for You O Allah Ta’ala. I testify that there is none worthy of worship besides You. I seek Your forgiveness and I repent to You.

5. Make wudhu in sequence.
