When someone comes to you seeking advice before proceeding on his journey, then one should advise him to adopt taqwa at all times, and to recite the takbeer (Allahu Akbar) whenever he ascends a high land during the journey.…

1. One should recite the Qur’aan Majeed when one’s heart is inclined towards the recitation. If one feels tired and notices that his concentration is affected, then one should stop the tilaawat, and continue when one is able to focus and concentrate.…

The one embarking on a journey should recite the following Duaa when bidding farewell to the people he is leaving behind

أَسْتَوْدِعُكُمُ اللَّهَ الَّذِي لَا تَضِيعُ وَدَائِعُهُ

I place all of you in the care (and trust) of Allah Ta’ala, (in whose care) trusts are never destroyed

عن موسى بن وردان، قال: أتيت أبا هريرة أودعه لسفر أردته، فقال أبو هريرة رضي الله عنه: ألا أعلمك يا ابن أخي شيئا علمنيه رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم أقوله عند الوداع؟ قلت: بلى.…

1. One should recite ta‘awwuz when commencing tilaawat of the Qur’aan Majeed.

فَاِذَا  قَرَاۡتَ الۡقُرۡاٰنَ فَاسۡتَعِذۡ مِنَ بِاللَّـهِ الشَّیۡطٰنِ الرَّجِیۡمِ (سورة النحل)

When you (intend to) recite the Qur’aan, seek refuge in Allah from Shaytaan, the rejected one…

One should recite the following Duaa when bidding someone farewell at the time he departs on a journey:

أَستَودِعُ اللهَ دِينَكَ وَأَمَانَتَكَ وَخَوَاتِيمَ عَمَلِكَ

I place your deen, your trust (wife, children and subordinates) and your final actions (at the time of death) in the care and trust of Allah Ta’ala

عن سالم أن ابن عمر كان يقول للرجل إذا أراد سفرا ادن مني أودعك كما كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه و سلم يودعنا فيقول أستودع الله دينك وأمانتك وخواتيم عملك  (ترمذي رقم 3443)

Hazrat Saalim (Rahmatullahi Alaihi) reports that Hazrat ibn Umar (Radhiyallahu Anhuma) would address a person embarking on a journey with the following words: “Come close to me so that I may bid you farewell in the manner that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) would bid us farewell (when we would depart on a journey).…

1. One of the rights of the Qur’aan Majeed is to ponder over its content and meaning in order that one may practice on the injunctions of the Qur’aan Majeed correctly.…

When performing istikhaarah, one should first perform two rakaats nafl salaah. Thereafter, one should recite the following Duaa:

أَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّيْ أَسْتَخِيْرُكَ بِعِلْمِكَ وَأَسْتَقْدِرُكَ بِقُدْرَتِكَ وَأَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ الْعَظِيْم فَإِنَّكَ تَقْدِرُ وَلاَ أَقْدِرُ وَتَعْلَمُ وَلاَ أَعْلَمُ وَأَنْتَ عَلاَّمُ الْغُيُوْب أَللَّهُمَّ إِنْ كُنْتَ تَعْلَمُ أَنَّ هَذَا الْأَمْرَ خَيْرٌ لِّيْ فِيْ دِيْنِيْ وَمَعَاشِيْ وَعَاقِبَةِ أَمْرِيْ فَاقْدِرْهُ لِيْ وَيَسِّرْهُ لِيْ ثُمَّ بَارِكْ لِيْ فِيْه وَإِنْ كُنْتَ تَعْلَمُ أَنَّ هَذَا الْأَمْرَ شَرٌّ لِّيْ فِيْ دِيْنِيْ وَمَعَاشِيْ وَعَاقِبَةِ أَمْرِيْ فَاصْرِفْهُ عَنِّيْ وَاصْرِفْنِيْ عَنْهُ وَاقْدِرْ لِيَ الْخَيْرَ حَيْثُ كَانَ ثُمَّ أَرْضِنِيْ بِه

O Allah!…

When removing one’s clothing, one should recite the following duaa:

بِسْمِ اللهِ الَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ

(I commence removing my clothes) with the name of Allah Ta‘ala, the Being regarding whom there is no Deity besides Him

عن أنس بن مالك رضي الله عنه قال : قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: ستر بين أعين الجن وعورات بني آدم أن يقول الرجل المسلم إذا أراد أن يطرح ثيابه: بسم الله الذي لا إله إلا هو.…

1. One should dedicate some time daily for the tilaawat of the Qur’aan Majeed.

وعن أبي ذر رضي الله عنه قال قلت يا رسول الله أوصني قال عليك بتقوى الله فإنه رأس الأمر كله قلت يا رسول الله زدني قال عليك بتلاوة القرآن فإنه نور لك في الأرض وذخر لك في السماء رواه ابن حبان في صحيحه في حديث طويل (الترغيب والترهيب رقم 2193)

When wearing new clothes, one should recite the following duaa:

اَلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي كَسَانِي مَا اُوَارِي بِهِ عَوْرَتي وَ أَتَجَمَّلُ بِهِ فِي حَيَاتِي

All praise is due to Allah Ta’ala who has clothed me with such (new) clothing through which I am able to conceal my private parts, and through which I am able to beautify myself in my life.…
