Duaas

One should recite the following duaa before eating

بِسْمِ اللهِ وَبَرَكَةِ اللهِ

In the name of Allah Ta’ala, and with the blessings of Allah Ta’ala.…

When performing istikhaarah, one should first perform two rakaats nafl salaah. Thereafter, one should recite the following Duaa:

أَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّيْ أَسْتَخِيْرُكَ بِعِلْمِكَ وَأَسْتَقْدِرُكَ بِقُدْرَتِكَ وَأَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ الْعَظِيْم فَإِنَّكَ تَقْدِرُ وَلاَ أَقْدِرُ وَتَعْلَمُ وَلاَ أَعْلَمُ وَأَنْتَ عَلاَّمُ الْغُيُوْب أَللَّهُمَّ إِنْ كُنْتَ تَعْلَمُ أَنَّ هَذَا الْأَمْرَ خَيْرٌ لِّيْ فِيْ دِيْنِيْ وَمَعَاشِيْ وَعَاقِبَةِ أَمْرِيْ فَاقْدِرْهُ لِيْ وَيَسِّرْهُ لِيْ ثُمَّ بَارِكْ لِيْ فِيْه وَإِنْ كُنْتَ تَعْلَمُ أَنَّ هَذَا الْأَمْرَ شَرٌّ لِّيْ فِيْ دِيْنِيْ وَمَعَاشِيْ وَعَاقِبَةِ أَمْرِيْ فَاصْرِفْهُ عَنِّيْ وَاصْرِفْنِيْ عَنْهُ وَاقْدِرْ لِيَ الْخَيْرَ حَيْثُ كَانَ ثُمَّ أَرْضِنِيْ بِه

O Allah!…

While travelling, one should recite the following du‘aa at the time of sehri:

سَمِعَ سَامِعٌ بِحَمْدِ اللهِ وَحُسْنِ بَلَائِهِ عَلَيْنَا، رَبَّنَا صَاحِبْنَا وَأَفْضِلْ عَلَيْنَا، عَائِذًا بِاللهِ مِنَ النَّار

Those who are hearing hear (and witness) our praise of Allah Ta‘ala and (our acknowledgment of) His great bounties upon us.…

When returning from a journey, when one ascends any high land, he should recite takbeer (Allahu Akbar) thrice and when approaching his homeland or city, he should recite the following dua:

لاَ إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لاَ شَرِيكَ لَهُ، لَهُ المُلْكُ وَلَهُ الحَمْدُ، وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ، آيِبُونَ تَائِبُونَ عَابِدُونَ سَاجِدُونَ لِرَبِّنَا حَامِدُونَ، صَدَقَ اللَّهُ وَعْدَهُ، وَنَصَرَ عَبْدَهُ، وَهَزَمَ الأَحْزَابَ وَحْدَهُ

There is no deity besides Allah Ta’ala alone, who has no partner.…

When travelling by sea, one should recite the following two verses. If one recites these verses, Allah Ta‘ala will save one from drowning:

• بِسْمِ اللَّهِ مَجْرِىهَا وَمُرْسٰهَا إِنَّ رَبِّي لَغَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ

• وَمَا قَدَرُوا اللَّهَ حَقَّ قَدْرِهِ وَالْأَرْضُ جَمِيعًا قَبْضَتُهُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ وَالسَّمٰوٰتُ مَطْوِيّٰتٌ بِيَمِينِهِ سُبْحٰنَهُ وَتَعٰلٰى عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ

عن الحسين بن علي قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: أمان أمتي من الغرق إذا ركبوا البحر أن يقولوا: بسم الله مجرىها ومرسٰهَا إن ربي لغفور رحيم [هود: 41] وما قدروا الله حق قدره [الزمر: 67] الآية.…

When entering a town or city, one should recite the following duaa thrice:

اَللَّهُمّ بَارك لنَا فِيهَا

O Allah, grant us barakah in this place

Thereafter, one should recite the following duaa:

اَللَّهُمَّ ارْزُقنَا جَنَاهَا وَحَبِّبنَا إِلَى أَهلِهَا وَحَبِّبْ صَالِحِى اَهلِهَا إِلَينَا

 O Allah, give us of its fruits and produce and make us beloved to its people and make the pious of its people beloved to us.…

When one stops at any place during the journey to spend the night, then one should recite the following Duaa:

اَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِن شَرِّ مَا خَلَق

 I seek protection through the complete (and perfect) words of Allah Ta’ala (i.e.…

When entering a town or city, one should recite the following duaa:

اللهُمَّ رَبَّ السَّمَوَاتِ السَّبْعِ وَمَا أَظْلَلْنَ وَرَبَّ الْأَرْضِينَ السَّبْعِ وَمَا أَقْلَلْنَ وَرَبَّ الشَّيَاطِينِ وَمَا أَضْلَلْنَ وَرَبَّ الرِّيَاحِ ومَا ذَرَيْنَ، فَإِنَّا نَسْأَلُكَ خَيْرَ هَذِهِ الْقَرْيَةِ وَخَيْرَ أَهْلِهَا وَنَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّهَا وَشَرِّ أَهْلِهَا وَشَرِّ مَا فِيهَا

O Allah, the Rabb of the seven skies and whatever they cover, the Rabb of the seven earths and whatever they carry, the Rabb of the Shayaateen and whoever they mislead, the Rabb of the winds and whatever it scatters, indeed we ask You to bless us with the good of this village and the good of its people, and we seek refuge in You from its evil, the evil of its people and the evil contained within it.…

While travelling, when night approaches, one should recite the following du‘aa:

يَا أَرْضُ رَبِّي وَرَبُّكِ اللَّهُ، أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنْ شَرِّكِ وَشَرِّ مَا فِيكِ، وَشَرِّ مَا خُلِقَ فِيكِ، وَمِنْ شَرِّ مَا يَدِبُّ عَلَيْكِ، وَأَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنْ أَسَدٍ وَأَسْوَدَ، وَمِنِ الْحَيَّةِ وَالْعَقْرَبِ، وَمِنْ سَاكِنِ الْبَلَدِ، وَمِنْ وَالِدٍ وَمَا وَلَدَ

O earth, my Rabb and your Rabb is Allah.…

In order to acquire ease during one’s journey, one should recite the five surahs with six bismillah.…
