Sunnats and Aadaab of Eating – Part 10

fruit1. When eating, one should eat from the sides of the plate and not the middle, as the blessings descends in the middle of the plate.

Hadhrat Abdullah bin Busr (Radhiallahu Anhu) reports that on one occasion a plate was brought to Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) then advised the Sahaabah: “Eat from the sides and not the middle, Allah Ta’ala will place barkat in the food.”

Hadhrat ibn Abbaas (Radhiallahu Anhuma) reports that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “Barkat descends in the middle of the food, therefore eat from the sides and do not eat from the middle.”

2.       Do not eat or drink from gold or silver utensils.

Hadhrat Umme Salamah (Radhiyallahu Anha) reports that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: “The one who consumes from a gold or silver utensil is in reality taking down into his stomach the fire of Jahannum.”

3.       When eating together, if there is a need for one to get up and leave early, then he should seek permission or inform his companions. [1]
